What is Fascia?

The human fascial network can be described as a 3-dimensional webbing that runs throughout the entire body with no beginning or end. Fascia encases every muscle, tendon, bone, and organ system, even down to a cellular level. Fascia acts as the environment for all other structures in the body, and has a tensile strength of up to 2000lbs per square inch. Fascial restrictions can put pressure on pain sensitive structures throughout the body.

Fascia also plays an important role in proprioception, which is the bodies ability to determine where and how it is positioned in time and space. Proprioception is the sense of movement and position. Without it we would not be able to stand or walk. Myofascial restrictions can impact the body’s ability to move with ease.

What is Myofascial Release Therapy?

MFR, or Myofascial Release Therapy is a safe and effective bodywork modality that addresses the connective tissues of the body. In MFR sessions, gentle sustained pressure is applied directly to areas of restrictions. Myofascial Release Therapy does not use oil or lotion in treatments to avoid gliding on the surface of the skin, and each technique is held for a long period of time to allow the fascia to lengthen properly.

Jeanette practices the John F. Barnes method of myofascial release, which is a holistic, whole body approach to restoring balance in the body.
